Days: 10 / Difficulty: 3 of 5 (Moderate to strenuous)
Min Group Size: 1 / Max Group Size: 16

The Mulde Viewpoint and Hidden Lake Trek is a remarkable 10-day trekking adventure in Nepal’s Annapurna region, designed for trekkers seeking solitude, pristine mountain landscapes, and authentic village life away from crowded trails. This lesser-known route takes you through lush rhododendron forests, traditional Gurung villages, high alpine pastures, and remote glacial terrain, culminating in breathtaking viewpoints and a mystical high-altitude hidden lake.

Unlike the popular Annapurna Base Camp or Ghorepani–Poon Hill treks, this journey explores quieter paths beyond Tadapani and Dobato, offering spectacular panoramic views of Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Hiunchuli, and Nilgiri - often without the crowds. The highlight of the trek is Mulde Viewpoint (3,650m), one of the finest sunrise viewpoints in the Annapurna region, followed by an adventurous exploration of the Hidden Lake (4,370m), tucked beneath towering Himalayan ridges.

This trek is ideal for trekkers with a moderate level of fitness who want a mix of cultural encounters, dramatic scenery, and high-altitude wilderness. Accommodation is primarily in local teahouses, with basic facilities as you move higher into more remote areas. The trek also includes a relaxing dip in the natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda, making for a perfect ending to a challenging yet rewarding journey.

Trek Highlights:-

  • Off-the-beaten trekking route in the Annapurna region
  • Spectacular sunrise from Mulde Viewpoint (3,650m)
  • Exploration of the remote Hidden Lake (4,370m)
  • Panoramic views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna massif and Dhaulagiri ranges
  • Traditional Gurung villages such as Ghandruk and Chhomrong
  • Dense rhododendron and oak forests
  • Alpine landscapes and high pastures
  • Natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda
  • Fewer trekkers and a strong sense of wilderness

Trek Route Overview
The trek begins in Kathmandu, followed by a short flight to Pokhara, Nepal’s picturesque lake city. From Pokhara, a scenic drive takes you to Kimche, where the trek officially starts. The trail passes through Ghandruk, Tadapani, and Dobato, gradually ascending through forests and ridgelines toward Mulde Viewpoint. After enjoying the sunrise, the route continues into remote alpine terrain at Pode Kharka, leading to the exploration of the Hidden Lake. The descent takes you through Tiribhu and down to Jhinu Danda, before returning to Pokhara and Kathmandu.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m)

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be greeted by a representative of Swiss Family Treks and Expedition and transferred to hotel in Kathmandu. After check-in, you can rest from your journey or explore the lively streets of Thamel, known for its trekking shops, cafés, and cultural atmosphere. In the evening, a detailed trek briefing will be conducted, covering the route, daily walking hours, altitude considerations, accommodation, and safety guidelines. This is also an opportunity to check trekking equipment and make any last-minute preparations. Overnight at a 4-star hotel in Thamel, Kathmandu.

Day 2: Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara (820m/25 minutes) and Drive to Kimche (1,640m/3 hours) and Trek to Ghandruk (1,940m/1-2 hours)
After an early breakfast, take a 25-minute scenic flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara. On a clear day, the flight offers spectacular views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. Upon arrival in Pokhara, you will drive by private jeep to Kimche, passing through lush hills, terraced farmland, and traditional villages. From Kimche, the trek begins with a gentle walk through stone-paved trails and cultivated fields toward Ghandruk, one of the most beautiful Gurung villages in the Annapurna region. The village is famous for its traditional houses, rich cultural heritage, and stunning views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). Overnight at a lodge/guest-house in Ghandruk.

Day 3: Trek from Ghandruk to Tadapani (2,630m/3-4 hours)
Leaving Ghandruk, the trail ascends gradually through terraced fields before entering dense forests of rhododendron, oak, and bamboo. During spring, the forest is vibrant with blooming rhododendrons, while in autumn the trail is peaceful and clear. As you gain altitude, the air becomes cooler and fresher. Occasional clearings along the trail provide impressive views of the Annapurna range. After a steady climb, you reach Tadapani, a small settlement located on a forested ridge. The area is quiet and surrounded by nature, making it a perfect place to rest and acclimatize. Overnight at a lodge/guest-house in Tadapani.

Day 4: Trek from Tadapani to Dobato (3,350m/5-6 hours)
Today’s trek takes you deeper into less-traveled terrain. Leaving Tadapani, the trail winds through thick forests and follows a series of ridges with gradual ascents and descents. The number of trekkers decreases significantly from this point onward, offering a strong sense of wilderness. As you climb higher, vegetation becomes sparser, and views begin to open toward distant snow-capped peaks. After several hours of trekking, you arrive at Dobato, a remote ridge-top settlement. Dobato is well known as the gateway to Mulde Viewpoint and offers magnificent panoramic mountain views in clear weather. Overnight at a lodge/guest-house in Dobato.

Day 5: Hike to Mulde Viewpoint (3,650m/30 minutes) and Trek to Pode Kharka (4,050m/4-5 hours)
An early start is essential today. Before sunrise, hike uphill for about 30 minutes to reach Mulde Viewpoint (3,650m). From the top, witness a breathtaking sunrise illuminating the peaks of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, Nilgiri, and Hiunchuli—one of the finest panoramic viewpoints in the Annapurna region. After spending time at the viewpoint, descend back to Dobato for breakfast and continue trekking along high ridges and alpine paths. The landscape gradually changes into open terrain with alpine meadows and grazing pastures. You eventually reach Pode Kharka, a high-altitude seasonal settlement used by local herders. Overnight at a lodge/guest-house in Pode Kharka.

Day 6: Explore Hidden Lake (4,370m/2-3 hours) and Trek to Tiribhu (3,425m/4-5 hours)
This is the most adventurous and rewarding day of the trek. After breakfast, ascend toward the Hidden Lake, following a rugged trail through alpine landscapes. The lake lies in a secluded basin beneath towering ridges and is surrounded by rocky terrain, creating a peaceful and untouched environment. After exploring the area and enjoying the dramatic surroundings, retrace your steps and begin the descent toward Tiribhu. The trail descends through alpine meadows and gradually re-enters forested sections, offering a striking contrast to the high-altitude terrain experienced earlier in the day. Overnight at a lodge/guest-house in Tiribhu.

Day 7: Trek from Tiribhu to Jhinu Danda (1,780m/5-6 hours)
Today’s trek is mostly downhill as you descend from high ridges into warmer, lower-altitude landscapes. The trail passes through forests, terraced farmland, and traditional villages, offering insight into rural mountain life. After a long descent, arrive at Jhinu Danda, a village famous for its natural hot springs located beside the Modi Khola river. In the afternoon, you can hike down to the hot springs and enjoy a relaxing soak—an excellent way to rejuvenate after days of trekking. Overnight at a lodge/guest-house in Jhinu Danda.

Day 8: Drive from Jhinu Danda to Pokhara (820m/4 hours) by private Jeep
After breakfast, walk shortly to cross long suspension bridge and travel by private jeep from Jhinu Danda back to Pokhara. The drive passes through scenic river valleys and rural settlements before reaching the lakeside city. Upon arrival, check into hotel and enjoy free time to relax by Phewa Lake, explore local markets, or enjoy cafés and restaurants. Overnight at a 4-star hotel in Lakeside, Pokhara.

Day 9: Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu (1,350m/25 minutes) by plane
Take a short and scenic flight from Pokhara back to Kathmandu which takes about 25 minutes and transfer to hotel by private vehicle. The remainder of the day is free for your own local sightseeing or souvenir shopping. Overnight at a 4-star hotel in Thamel, Kathmandu.

Day 10: Departure from Kathmandu
According to your departure schedule, you will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward journey, marking the end of your unforgettable Mulde Viewpoint and Hidden Lake Trek.
