Day 8: Acclimatization Day - hike to Nakarjung Hill 5070m
As part of the classic Everest Base Camp Trek, an acclimatization day in Dingboche is typically spent hiking to Nakarjung Hill, also known as Nakarjung Hermitage, a rewarding high-altitude climb that helps trekkers adapt before continuing toward Lobuche. After breakfast, the trail ascends steadily above the village along a well-defined but increasingly rocky ridge, gaining approximately 600–700 meters in elevation to a highest point of around 5,070–5,100 m. The path is not technical but can feel strenuous due to the thin air, with loose gravel sections and exposed terrain requiring a slow, steady pace. The ascent generally takes about 2–3 hours, with trekkers encouraged to rest briefly near the top to maximize acclimatization benefits before descending the same way back to Dingboche, making the total walking time roughly 3–5 hours round trip. From the top, the panoramic views are outstanding, with close-up vistas of Ama Dablam, and impressive sights of Lhotse, Makalu, and Island Peak above the Imja Valley. The open, windswept setting often decorated with prayer flags adds a serene Himalayan atmosphere. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy significantly improves the body’s adaptation to altitude while offering one of the most spectacular viewpoints of the entire trek, before returning to the comfort of Dingboche for the night. Overnight at a lodge in Dingboche.
Day 9: Trek from Dingboche to Lobuche 4910m/5-6 hours
Climbing through rocky ridges, we leave Dingboche. We trek along Khumbu Khola and pass small Mani walls and Chortens before we reach Thukla, which hosts superb view of Lobuche, Pumori, Cholatse, Taboche, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and the other Himalayas. From Thukla, we trek for a couple of hours before climbing on the steep moraines of Khumbu glacier to reach Lobuche. Overnight at a lodge in Lobuche.
Day 10: Trek from Lobuche to Gorakshep 5140m/3 hours and Exploring the Everest Base Camp 5364m
Trekking along the bank of Khumbu glacier, we walk for few hours through rough ridges till we reach Gorakshep and then continue trek to Everest Base Camp. We explore the base camp filled with ice and snow. Standing at the foot of Mt Everest, we get an amazing view of Pumori (7161m), Lingtren (6714m), Khumbutse (6636m), Nuptse (7861m), Lobuche (6119m), Taboche (6542m), and the other Himalayas.
