Dhampus Australian Camp Trek is a very easy family holiday trek in Annapurna Conservation Area for those people who have smaller kids. The place also serves as one of the main entry points to Annapurna Base camp and to other trekking trails of Annapurna Region. The village ranges from an altitude of 800 m at the base to 1600m. Trek to Dhampus village, one of the paradises of Nepal, begins from Phedi village, nearly a 30 minutes drive from beautiful lakeside city of Pokhara. From here one trek alongside beautiful views of golden rice terraces the vast expanse of the Annapurna Mountain range. This 2 hours climb to Dhampus continues through magnificent rhododendron forest nesting various species of birds to the village of Chandrakot, inhabited by the warm-hearted and hospitable Gurung People. When you emerge from the forest and reach Dhampus, you will be able to marvel at exceptional view of massive Mt. Machhapuchhare. Popularly known as Fishtail Mountain 6900m for its peak resemble the shape of fish’s tail. From Dhampus one can also grab the exceptional view of Pokhara and the scenery gets even better as the sun goes down. The small village comprise of enormous beauty of mountains, friendly Gurung People, a small lake from where one can get the reflection of fishtail, temples, flowers, mustard fields, birds, and many more. Dhampus is not just a Mountain View point but a culturally rich village of the ethnic Gurung people. You will also have an opportunity for a close look at the daily lives of the villagers. The walk next day through forest to the Australian camp is also equally scenic.
We organized this trek for several families who are looking for short hiking holiday in Nepal with their small kids. This is a wonderful trek for children of all ages although some kids make better trekking companions than others. Infants and babies are surprisingly easy to bring with you, as they are generally happy to be carried for longer periods of time. Porters hiring can be possible from us to carry your small children that we provide our baby carrier which is exported from Europe. Children under five may be easily carried in baby carrier and above 5 years old children may be able to walk long distances, but those between five and twelve may have the hardest time. They are too big to be carried, but too small to walk far. So that, kids will love the animals and we definately suggest you to rent a horse during the trek for giving extra fun for riding to prevent little legs from getting worn out. Toddlers make more challenging walking partners as they can’t walk terribly far and don’t always like to be carried for hours on end. However, the trekking is leisurely and you can structure your day how you like and take longer breaks where necessary. We book a family room at hotel in Kathmandu and Pokhara as well as neat and clean lodges during the trek. Our guide and porters are kid friendly and experienced in the region to introduce you about culture, people and mountains. Bring extra supplies, when trekking with kids, it’s always a good idea to bring extra snacks. Foods will be provided only in the lodges as per our choice from the menu. Cards, travel games and pens and paper for evenings in the lodges are fun to bring, as well.
