Dudh Kunda (Sacred Milk Lake) Camping Trek, 10 Days

Days: 10 / Difficulty: 3 of 5 (Moderate to strenuous)

One of the beautiful and shorter trek routes in the Solukhumbu region of Nepal, the Dudh Kunda Camping Trek allows for some unique cultural experiences with a great chance to witness the beautiful flora and fauna of this region. We will be able to see the magnificent beauty of the Himalayan ranges including the majestic Everest (8,848m). This trek offers a wonderful example of Himalayan hospitality as we pass through the villages of different ethnic groups.

The 10-days trek begins as you land in Kathmandu and explore the cultural masterpieces within the city. You will take a domestic flight to Phaplu and trek to reach Ringmo. The trail further continues along Beni and finally reaching Dudh Kunda valley. Very little people make their way to the Dudh Kunda Path making it an uncharted territory. Located at the base of the Numbur Himal (6,958m), the marvelous trek will take you on a cultural journey through ancient trading routes. This almost feels as if time traveled back in time. The Dudh Kunda which literally translated to “Milky Lake” is situated in one of the very rich area in Nepal which boasts of an ecology that consists of animals such as the Mountain Thar, Snow leopard, pheasants, bears and jackals and so much more with views of Everest (8848m), Numbur (6958m) and multitude of other peaks in the Sagarmatha region. This trek is a wonderful opportunity to cool down one’s stressed life and give in to nature and lose into spirituality. Itinerary
Day 1: Arriving at the international airport and transfer to hotel.

Welcome to Kathmandu. Our staff will meet you at the airport and transfer you to our hotel.

Day 2: Full day sightseeing tour in Kathmandu in a private car.
A historic city, Kathmandu valley is the melting point of multiple cultures all cuddled together in the lap of the Himalayas. Home to the majority of Hindus and Buddhists, the two religions combine to bring a rich culture of food, tradition, and heritage. We will see such multiple spots in today’s tour. Our tour will take us to sites such as Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, and Swayambhunath Temple and so on. Famous for having many UNESCO world heritage sites, the city is a hub of warm ambiance. One can only imagine how rich the art culture must have been during the earlier years. Overnight at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 3: Fly from Kathmandu to Phaplu and trek to Ringmo.
As we fly to Phaplu, we will begin to get glimpses of the beauty of Nepal from the aerial views. The different geographical settings of Nepal can be seen to be arranged beautifully. The grey and white mountains are subtly followed by green lush hills and immense river systems to create a natural paragon. After landing, we will trek to Ringmo which is through lush green meadows and a red blooming forest of rhododendrons. Overnight in Ringmo.

Day 4: Ringmo to Sarsar Beni (3800m)
Today, we will gain quite an altitude to the yak pasture land of Sarsar Beni. We will be walking quite a long time today and is quite tiring on a steep trail.  As mostly shrubs grow here, this area is mostly brown in color and also provides the possibility of witnessing a few different types of wildlife in this area. Our tired body will feel much better as we reach Beni and get a view of the beautiful mountains. Overnight at Sarsar Beni.

Day 5: We climb up to Dudh Kunda (4561m)
After breakfast, we will begin our climb to Dudh Kunda which literally translates to Milky Lake. We will meet another lake as we make our way, called the Kalo Pokhari. Local belief says that you ought to visit the lake while you hike up and cannot be seen after you visit Dudh Kunda. Many other folklores surround this area. When we reach the lake, we will be able to see a darkish blue-tinged water with the backdrop of Karyolung (6,681) and Numbur (6,959m) towering over it. This is an ideal location for photo making and enjoying the peace and serenity. From here we will move down to Beni. Overnight at Beni.

Day 6: Sarsar Beni — climbing to a pass over Pare Dande and down to Junbesi
We will pass Pare Danda which is a ridge with great lush pasture lands. We will be able to see the panoramic view of the Himalayas which gives it an overwhelming feeling. Passing the ridge we further make our way to the village of Sherpas’ called Junbesi which also houses many famous monasteries which can be explored for the rest of the day. Overnight at Junbesi

Day 7: From Junbesi we walk down to Beni and climb then up to the airfield of Phaplu.
Today, we will descend to the river Basa with beautiful views of the mountains in the Everest region keeping us company. As today marks the last day of walking, we have the time to think and reflect back upon our accomplishments and the learnings of the trek in the Himalayas. Time spent in the Himalayas change the person in ways that they may not even have imagined. From Beni, we will walk upon the airstrip of Phaplu.

Day 8: Fly back to Kathmandu
With the great view of the Himalayas, we shall take a flight back to Kathmandu. The scenery from above is completely different and awe-inspiring. Any flights in the Solukhumbu region are prone to delays and cancellations due to the unpredictable weather in the Himalayas. We allocate a different buffer day if such cases arise. We will reach Kathmandu rather early and have a chance to give much-required rest to our sore legs. Overnight at a 3-star hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 9: Shopping and/or sightseeing in the valley
As today is a free day in Kathmandu, we have the option to explore multiple heritage sites which show off beautiful skills in stone and woodwork such as Kathmandu Durbar Square, Lalitpur Durbar Square, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square.  We will also have the time to go shopping at the markets of Kathmandu has many trinkets you can pick up along with woolen and cashmere products.
