The Great Himalaya Trail - Section 3 (Langtang to Manaslu Region)

This section of the trek crossing the Tilman’s Pass after visiting the Bhairav Kund and five sacred lakes of Panch Pokhari and the extremely remote Jugal Himal, home of the blue sheep and the red panda. The Langtang Himalayas are within easy reach of Kathmandu. But they rival any alpine area on the planet for staggering natural beauty. The Langtang region remains one of Nepal's hidden treasures with far less tourist traffic than the Everest or Annapurna regions. Jugal Himal or "chain of peaks" is situated to the northeast of Kathmandu. It includes the summits Dorje Lakpa (6966m), Madiya (6257m) and Phurbi Chhyachu (6637m). The trail follows a ridge to Bhairav Kund, a holy lake at 3500 meters. We then make a circuit around the head of the Balephi Khola Valley to Panch Pokhari ("five lakes") at 3600 meters, a seldom-visited pilgrimage site. This trek is a true adventure. Expect significant elevation gain on narrow trails. Most villages are without guest houses. The trek takes us past the rocky peaks of Kanshurum, Urkinmang and Ganchenpo after passing the high snowy Tilman’s Pass. Its beautiful mountains can be seen even from the Kathmandu Valley as well. Though the area is within easy access from Kathmandu, very few trekkers visit there. It is one of the precious areas where the simple life of the Himalayas can be still observed.

Trek in the Langtang, Ganesh Himal and Manaslu region are designed to introduce you to a broad spectrum of life mountain communities and breathtaking scenes. This course starts in the semitropical sun, goes up to a fairly high elevation, where a close view of Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung can be enjoyed. The area is still beyond the reach of modern constructions and no lodge accommodations are available for the visitors. Experience the trekking area which lies on the central eastern region of Nepal still lucky to remain untouched by modern world. You are trekking in different part of world getting in contact with local people, unspoiled nature, widely cultural and traditions barrier, massive mountain close enough to touch. Getting at the high snowy pass leaving the clouds under you and greeting the massive mountains over 8000m, would not that be amazing. The Ganesh Himal is named after the elephant-headed God of Good Fortune. The Ganesh Range Peaks (Ganesh I, Ganesh II, Ganesh III, Ganesh IV) stand out like crystal that is the "Great Himalayan Chain" forming the skyline. This great Himalayan massif is contained between the valley of the Buri Gandaki in the west and Bhote Koshi in the east, which becomes Trishuli River in the lower section. The first glimpse of Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung greets us, when we go crossing over the hills. Observe the different ways of inhabitation, and come in contact with different people following various caste, creed and culture, and thereby pass through the dense forest and meadows, crossing through high highlander pass, which offers an excellent view of the massif Ganesh Himal (7406m), Langtang (7300m), and many more are the day to day activities of the trek. The unusual climatic and geographical mix make this area a naturalist`s dream and a Mecca. Then, we are entering to Manaslu region after several traverses in Ganesh Himal valley. Now you are considered as one of the most challenging treks in Nepal, opened in 1992. This trek offers adventurous with an unparalleled Alpine experience, a combination of rich culture heritage, snow bound Larkya-La Pass, beautiful landscapes, typical Tibetan settlements, waterfalls, bio diversity, ancient monasteries in Tsum Valley, stunning view of Manaslu and Annapurna Range, Glacier lake.  The name Manaslu means "The Spirit-Mountain" in the local dialect, referring to the benevolent and strong deity, which dwells within. Trekking in this regions are one of the most delightful adventures and it offers a unique opportunity to experience relatively "untouched" region of Nepal. It provides spectacular beauty along the border of Nepal and Tibet.
