Trekking and Meditation to Naar-Phu and Milarepa’s Cave, Lodge, 23 Days
This trek leads us mainly through the magnificent landscape of the Manang-Valley. Because this is located north of the Annapurna and by that in the north of the Himalayan main-range, the valley is much more dry than the southside of the Annapurna-range and looks therefore scenically as well as culturally more like Tibet than Nepal. The landscape is from breathtaking beauty and allows magnificent views on Annapurna-North face. The Tibetan saint Milarepa is well-known to many Himalayan Buddhist and Bon-Po communities. In the 10th century he wandered and meditated across the mountains of Tibet and Nepal from cave to cave, and is famous as Tibet’s greatest saint, who received Buddha-hood in only one lifetime. His biography is very inspiring for all Tibetan Buddhists, because he was just a murderer, before he met his teacher Marpa. With deep regret about his negative actions, he became an highly motivated, extraordinary meditator and yogi, who used to sit naked in his caves and feeding himself mainly by nettle-soup, until he got a greenish skin. He used to compose poems to teach local people, which are very popular until now days and known as the ‘The 100.000 Songs of Milarepa’. His main disciples founded the famous Kagyu-pa sect, one of the four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism. As he wandered across this mountains, Milarepa came across a cave where he meditated for many days. A hunter of the Nyeshang people, Gompo Dorje offered food and comfort to the saint. In return he gave Dorje and his people wisdom-transmissions by poems, which he sung. Milarepa’s cave is honored with an annual festival and the local people pay a lot of respect to the saint and the the place, which was blessed by him. Like some other treks in the ‘Trekking and Meditation’-Program, we choosed this trek because of the extraordinary combination of natural beauty and a highly blessed place with an inspiring history, which will be beneficial for your meditation and unforgettable for the rest of your life.
