Kanchenjunga Basecamp Camping Trek, 25 Days
Kanchanjunga Trek, Literally Kanchanjunga means, crystal clear in Nepali. Geographically the Kanchanjunga mountain is the second tallest in Nepal and the third tallest in the world after the K2 in Pakistan. The whole trekking area in this region streaked through and around the Arun River is untouched. The Arun valley is one of the most beautiful regions for trekking in Nepal. Traveling around this part gives you the opportunity to enjoy and study deeply the traditional culture of Rai and Limbu, the native locals of this area. Trekking in this area is an adventure that is full of extraordinary excitement and above all, an unforgettable experience of you lifetime. This area is declared as the gift of the Earth full of alpine grass lands, rocky outcrops, dense temperate and sub-tropical forests and low river valley. It is situated north in north eastern part of Nepal border by Tibet, China and India. This enchanting area offers the excellent display of flowering glory of rhododendrons, orchids, lilies, primula and many other flowers. The must-see place of this region is Kanchenjunga Conservation Area spread in an area of 2,035 square Kilometers. The area has a rich diversity of wildlife including snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, musk deer red panda and others. Impheyan, pheasant, red-billed blue mangpie, shy drongo are the major birds found here. Kanchenjunga area is the inhabitant of Sherpas who have different culture and tradition from those of Solukhumbu district. Rais, Chhetris, Brahmans are other ethnic group of this region. Monasteries, chhortens, temples, prayer walls are the representation of this area. So Kanchenjunga is the most popular trekking destination which will fire up the imagination of everyone. Mount Kanchenjunga, one of the world's most spectacular mountains, is renowned as the queen of mountains. Kangchenjunga, the third highest peak on the planet, can boast of varied ecological zones, from the subtropical land to glacial wilderness. Mighty Kangchenjunga glacier is the most famous attraction of Kanchenjunga. Great valleys, encircled by high peaks, are another feature of Kanchenjunga.
Itinerary in details
Day 1; Rendezvous at the group hotel in Kathmandu. Complimentary airport transfers are provided. Stay overnight at Hotel.
Day 2; We start our journey with an domestic flight eastwards to Birantnagar, on the edge of the Indian plains, where we check in to our hotel and have the afternoon free. Stay overnight at Hotel.
Day 3; A morning flight takes us north to the airstrip at Taplejung. Here, we meet our trek crew and set off on the short trek to our camp at Lali Kharka. Good views of Kangchenjunga. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 4; Contour around to Tambawa, with views of the day's walk ahead of us. Descend to a river, then climb via Kunjuri to our camp on the Sinchewa Banjyang ridge. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 5; Negotiating terraced field systems high above the Kabeli Khola, we pass through many small hamlets and cross low ridges. Beyond the Khesewa Khola, we climb to Phonphe Dhara. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 6; More ups and downs, crossing ridges and river valleys to the most remote settlement in this area at Yamphudin(1678m). Good swimming pools in the river next to our camp. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 7; Trek down to the Omje Khola, then a steep ascent through dense forest leads to the crest of the Deorali Danda(3230m), then down to Torontan in the valley of the Simbua Khola. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 8; Following a riverside trail, we trek through pine and rhododendron forest to Tseram at 3865 metres. Views of the Yalung Glacier and of Kabru and Rathong. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 9; We spend a rest day at Tseram to assist with our acclimatisation. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 10 Today we trek up to the south side basecamp for Kangchenjunga at Ramze. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 11; Exploration above Ramze, as far as Oktang, then retrace our steps and make a final climb to the small lakes at Chhuchung Pokhari(4450m). Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 12; A superb day of trekking today, as we cross 3 passes, including the Mirgin La(4650m), en route for the north side of the mountain. Superb views, then a descent to camp at Selele. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 13; Contouring the hillside with more fantastic views, we cross further two low passes and then descend through rhododendron forest to the Tibetan village(3475m). Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 14; Stunning trekking, through pine forest and then open country, with a steep climb and descent to reach the summer village. Jannu looms above our camp. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 15; Easy angle trekking, with incredible views of Wedge Peak, Nepal Peak and many others. Camp at Lhonak on a grassy site above the Kangchenjunga Glacier. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 16; A short, but slow-paced walk up to our highest camp at Pang Pema (5150m). This is one of the most spectacular places in the world, directly opposite Kangchenjunga's north face. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 17; At leisure at Pang Pema. Day walk options include the hill known as Drohmo Ri(5800m) above camp, which provides panoramic views of Kangchenjunga. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 18; Time to walk out from this remote spot, we retrace the route of our approach to the camp at Kambachen, with more unmissable photo opportunities on the way. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 19; Today we return to Ghunsa, where we take lunch and then continue beside the Ghunsa Khola, to the Tibetan Refugee village. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 20; Trekking downstream through a forest of rhododendron, conifer birch and oak, we pass the last of the Tibetan villages at Kyapra and follow an undulating trail to Amjillarsa. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 21; After a steep descent beside the Ghunsa Khola to Sakathon at the junction with the Tamur, an afternoon's walk leads to our riverside camp at Chirwa(1240m). Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 22; Trekking through villages and cultivated fields, we contour around on a high trail above the Tamur to Phurumba. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 23; It is just a short morning's hike to our camp alongside the airstrip at Suketar. Afternoon free and a chance for the brave to sample the local millet beer or tungba. Stay overnight at tented camp.
Day 24; We take the morning flight to Biratnagar and onward flight to Kathmandu. After checking in at the group hotel and resting, Stay overnight at Hotel.
Day 25; Complimentary airport transfers are provided.
