Going to 'Yolmoland' with Children Lodge Trek, 10 Days
Day 1; Arrival in Kathmandu International Airport and meet with our airport representative at the airport and transfer to Hotel by private car. Welcome drink and refreshment, relax. Stay Overnight in Hotel.
Day 2; We were 3 families going together on a trek to "Yolmo" country, Helambu. We had 2 vehicles and we started our drive at 8 o'clock. 4 adults and 8 children, will be quite a challenge for every lodge on the route. I did not even count yet the 6 porters and the leader! We cruise to Sundarijal, everything runs smoothly. Around 9.30 we all stood packed on the main square and were ready to be launched! The trail goes steep up right away, first stairs, then through rice fields. Finally, lunch break in Mulkharka. There is not much of a choice, but we got full and our guide has fruits for desert. Today our aim is Chisapani, which we reach late in the afternoon. Lodge.
Day 3; First all down, without any hurry over hills till 1st tea break. Then it changed to strenuous again, particularly for the middle children (6+7 years) it was quite challenging, steep up till Chipling for lunch. After that the route seemed neverending! We reached the first hilltop, then still a little bit further and even further, until finally we reached our night's lodging in Gulgaun. It is already 17 o'clock, it was a long day!
Day 4; Porridge for the breakfast, the children get used to it. Good start. The trail ascends. Our aim for lunch is Kutumsang. A nice place which invites for staying and playing! We let the children play for a while, because the route promises to ascend further! We are telling all kind of stories to the little ones to keep them in the mood. Everybody liked the rhododendron blossoming in pink, white & red. However, we are strong, we make and reach Magenoth, a single house on a small pass. Really very lovely! The children get some Chocolatespread on the pancakes as a treat!
Day 5; It's cold to get up in the morning. First the trail deschends comfortably, then it continues level and then quite fast steep up again, higher and higher till lunchbreak in Thatapati. A wonderful vantage point! We sit all outdoors at the big family table. Then a steep descent, about 1000 altitude metre in a very short time and we adopt a dog on the way. We cross a suspension bridge & the last ascent before we reach Melamchi Gaun. Supper in the lodge kitchen.
Day 6; Visit in a monastery. Then a 1 and a half hour descent till the river. Tea break. There is a sort of cave and the children like to play there for the rest of the day, but we have to proceed. The last 600 m ascent, on the way we treat ourselves with lunch. After about 1 1/2h we reach Tarkeghyang. Today we pass quite a lot of Stupas, old and new, all shapes . Our really great Lodge has a huge meadow in front and hot water! So everybody gets a shower. And because it's so nice here, and the children really enjoy it, we decide to stay here 2 nights!
Day 7; Relaxing day!
Day 8; Pack up, everybody helps! Lunch in Ganjawal. Meanwhile we are quite well organized group and espescially the children became quite close to each other. Our last night we spend in Sermanthang. We have other tourists in the same lodge. Cardgames are announced.
Day 9; Our final goal is Kakani. On the way down there, we discover a big Padmasambhava statue on a hill. www.padmaworldpeace.org. We give notice to the driver that we do not run to Melamchi Pul / Bazaar. Although the street is anything but quiet and comfortable. We arrive late back to Katmandu. It was a great 'Eastertrek'!
